“One of my favorite things about this book is the musings sprinkled throughout! I feel like they give insight into some of the thoughts most black women (and men) have or have had throughout this time we're living in. I've never related so much to a book to the point of tears and the fact that although yes, we are not a monolith, it still saddens me that we've all felt the same feelings or experiences in one way or another ... I have a daughter and strive to give her the best experiences in life so best believe I'm taking a page out of Ms. Laing's book to teach her a thing or two!”

“I love this book! I go out of my way to look for new poets, & sometimes I'm disappointed, but holy heck, not this time! The poems were sweet, nostalgic, loving, fiery, angry, cynical, wistful, passionate & quiet, stirring the emotions like a tornado. It was refreshing to read these. More!

These poems and musings tell the complex story of what it’s like to be a black woman in the world. From the othering feelings being surrounded by our white counterparts to the joy we feel looking in the mirror to the love we feel from our own and the love we have for our own. The funny nuances of our day to day and our hard truths we reflect on at night. I love this book. The composition and the organization of the poems is also very pleasing to the eye which should also be applauded as well.
